Abstract
The primary vaginal carcinoma is one of the rarest malignant processes in the human body. When primary vaginal cancer does occur, it is generally epidermoid carcinoma.
There are some possible predisposing factors, such as use of a vaginal pessary? prolapse of vaginal wall, syphilis, leukorrhea, leukoplakia and previous pelvic irradiation but the cause of squamous cell carcinoma of the vagina is unknown. The vaginal carcinma is mostly treated by radiotherapy with external and internal irradiation.
A 71 year-old, para 7, woman with primary vaginal squamous cell carcinoma which had been located at the upper one third of the anterior vaginal wall was treated by external and intracavitory irradiation. The result was good.
This patient receied 5040 rad external irradiation in a duration of 6 weeks; and 3200 rad intracavitory irradiation in 4 weeks.
